The band was formed in
1996 and had achieved a more or less popularity wit hte following lineup:
Oleg "Checkered" Tchekin-Berezin — voice
Andy Romantcook — guitar
Eugene Lomakin — drums, vocals (HAWAIIAN ISLANDS, ALLIGATORS, CRAZY MEN CRAZY, SURFIN ' KEDZ, OFFBEAT, PIJONY, STEAM ENGINE)
Nick Vtorov — double bass/bass guitar (GREASE DREAM, MUSIC HAMMER BAND, OFFBEAT)
The band became well known among the rockabilly fans, but for this reason nobody else knew about them, and they practically never crossed the Moscow city limits. However due to vigorous activity of their leader of Oleg "the Checkered" they recorded and released a live tape from The Poor People Club and some songs on rockabilly compilations: "Oklahoma Cat" and "Silver Train" (Nervous Records). With the help of the manager the musicians even got some money for these 2 songs. A number of their songs also appeared on Russian rockabilly compilations, but as the material was in English, the manager did not approach any Russian label.
In 1997 they played along with Lee Rocker (STRAY CATS). It was a jam at the last show of his 2-week Moscow stand at the Chesterfield Cafe. Rocker had also invited
MISTER
TWISTER and OFFBEAT
who duly performed.
The SKYROCKETS are not in a big demand, they play very few shows, and Eugene Lomakin forms a trio SURFIN ' KEDZ, who
— guess what — play surf. In 1999 he plays swing and jive in the PIJONY and rock and roll in OFFBEAT, then he leaves for steady and money work for
OFFBEAT.
