"There's
rockabilly in the Urals too!" — the STOCKMEN from Ekaterinburg states.
They do not accept rockabilly in the city. Nobody ever played here it except for
MISTER TWISTER — they did a 2-week tour around the region towns and played 2
dates in the local Politechnical Institute in winter'88, and 2 shows in the city
in 1989). Therefore STOCKMEN at once and for found themselves in opposition to
other bands.
It was then when their style ands ways generated: the agressive Taras Trofimov's vocal and hooligan playing of the musicians. They are sometimes considered a psychobilly band in the vein of FRANTIC FLINTSTONES. At shows Taras sometimes uses thrash sound. Eventually a trio drew enough fans to fill a small hall. Before forming STOCKMEN in nobody in E-burg suspected that one can listen to and play rockabilly. The rock'n'roll was considered the freak music. The trio repertoir is almost all their own songs. Their idols and heroes — the gods of gold times. Modern rockabilly and psychobilly are also honoured. Everything began one cold winter, when a guitar player Taras "Tankman" Trofimov and a drummer Serge Misharin met. With the first words and at the first bottle of beer, drunk right outdoors, they found out each other's passion for music. It is necessary to find of a bass player. Double bass was turned down: it is heavy to carry. Serge brought e red-headed Beatles' fan Bob Kolikov. When the business went well, the musicians began to play less covers, preferring their own songs. Within a year STOCKMEN reaped the laurels of several festivals playng some 20 gigs in city clubs. But here Kolikov decided to leave the band: he was not a fanatic. Soon Trofimov's buddy Andy Poluectov approached him and said he wanted to play the bass. In the autumn of 2000 they got some money for an album. Having sent their demo of an album to Moscow, Peterburd and Europe (Germany, Austria, England) they received a good reviews. The song "Rattlesnakin" Boogie" was included in the compilation of Russian rockabilly (free CD with anissue of magazine "Audio Video and Auto Sound "). The band plan half an hour video and recording a single. |
